چکیده

Heparin may cause hyperkalemia by blocking aldosterone biosynthesis in the adrenal gland. A 68-year-old female patient was diagnosed as deep vein thrombosis and received intravenous catheter direct thrombolysis. The patient suffered hyperkalemia without systemic infection, cardiac or renal failure, adrenal insufficiency, or sudden anemia. The plasma potassium level normalized after heparin changed to fraxiparine. Here, we have reviewed the literature and discussed risk of heparin-induced hyperklamia.

Successful Treatment of a Catheter-Induced Superior Vena Cava Syndrome through Catheter-Directed Thrombolysis: A Case Report

Superior vena cava (SVC) syndrome is a medical condition resulting from the obstruction of the blood flow through the large central veins. Recently, central venous catheters have been reported as the increasingly common cause of this syndrome. We describe a 56-year-old woman with previous history of metastatic colon cancer, who had recently undergone central venous catheter insertion for her se...

Severe Acute Hyperkalemia during Pre-Anhepatic Stage in Cadaveric Orthotopic Liver Transplantation

A serious hazard to patients during orthotopic liver transplantation is hyperkalemia. Although the most frequent and hazardous hyperkalemia occurs immediately after reperfusion of the newly transplanted liver, morbid hyperkalemia could happen in the other phases during orthotopic liver transplantation. However, pre-anhepatic hyperkalemia during orthotopic liver transplantation is rare. This rep...

Should prophylactic thrombolysis be routine in clinical practice? Evidence from an autopsy case of septicemia

BACKGROUND Central venous catheters provide easy access for intravenous infusion and nutrition, but they can bring about complications such as catheter-related infections. Infected central venous catheters often cause nosocomial bloodstream infections with high morbidity and mortality. However, most of the morphological data that have been published are derived from in vitro and in vivo studies...
